Leukemia is a cancer of the blood and bone marrow.
The disease is characterized by the
overproduction of immature blood cells (stem cells) that cannot fully develop
and implement the activities of normal cells of the blood.
Any type of
mature blood cells has specific characteristics and roles within the body.
White blood cells or leukocytes have an important role in the immune system,
thus helping to overcome infections. White blood cells also help in the healing
of the wounds of the flesh and the cuts. Red blood cells or red blood cells
contain hemoglobin, which is very important for the transport of oxygen to the
cells in the body. Red blood cells are vital to the process of cellular
respiration, wearing oxygen to cells and removing carbon dioxide. Leukemia
leads to accumulation and congestion of patients the level of bone marrow stem
cell, whereby the normal production of blood cells in healthy. The lack of
normal cells of the blood causes the symptoms of leukemia. It is important to
understand that despite the fact that leukemia causes production of white blood
cells, these cells are immature and not replace normal cells of the blood. The
most common symptoms of leukemia are: risk (insufficient number of red blood
cells in the blood), anemia of bleeding (insufficient number of platelets in
the blood), nosebleeds, bleeding from the oral cavity, susceptibility to
injuries, high exposure to infections due to a lack of white blood cells, a
poor wound healing.
Other symptoms of
leukemia possible fatigue, lack of concentration, poor mental performance,
fever, loss of appetite and weight loss.
In the case of
chronic leukemia, which the accumulation of diseased blood cells facilitates in
different places in the body, the symptoms of leukemia migraines, insomnia,
impaired vision and hearing, loss of balance, Jon and convulsions. Sometimes
people with leukemia may have enlarged liver and spleen, causing abdominal
swelling or Lymphadenopathy. The glands of the body of the body may also be
affected by leukemia.
Leukemia symptoms
are non-specific. Health professionals are the only ones that can distinguish
it from other diseases with similar symptoms of leukemia. Analysis of blood and
attentive body tests can reveal the presence of leukemia.
